frigesco is a young company that is set to revolutionise the defrost process in all freezer applications worldwide

The company was founded by Company Chairman, Professor Tom Davies, and commenced business in 2011.

The company is focused on improving the energy efficiency of refrigeration systems and in particular defrost technology, through innovative and patented engineering solutions.

The first such system is the Frigesco™ Defrost System which was highly commended runner up in the  RAC Cooling Industry Award for best Refrigeration Innovation of the Year 2013.

The system is elegantly simple, innovative and highly energy efficient. The potential energy savings from adopting the system in supermarkets worldwide amount to £1.6bn per annum with rapid pay back on the investment of installing the system.

Since 2011 the company has developed tested and fitted the Frigesco™ Defrost System -into a cold room and a retail display cabinet, both units demonstrating remarkable improvements in energy efficiency. The retail display cabinet installation was independently tested by leading industry test organisation, Refrigeration Developments and Testing Ltd.

In February 2014 the company won the best in show award at the Cleantech Innovate 2014 event – the UK’s leading showcase for cleantech innovation companies.

This was followed in March 2014 by the award for excellence in the field of environmental technology development at CleanEquity Monaco 2014 the forum for emerging cleantech and resource efficiency companies

Between April and July 2014 company Chairman Professor Tom Davies presented papers  on  the Frigesco defrost system, to a wide international audience,  to the Institute of Refrigeration, the  3rd IIR Conference on Sustainability and the Cold Chain , and the 15th International Refrigeration and Airconditioning conference at Purdue.

In September 2014 the company won an RAC Cooling Industry Award for best Refrigeration Innovation of the Year – component or process.  At the same time it also was Highly Commended in the Low Carbon Achievement Award. This was followed in November 2014 by being shortlisted for two National ACR 2015  awards -Refrigeration Product of the Year, and Environmental Champion which it subsequently won.

In February 2015 the company also won the ACR News award for Refrigeration product of the year.

The company is now commercialising the walk-in cold room defrost system. The first in store trials  started in the UK in July 2014 and show most encouraging results. Further trials are now taking place in the US,  Ireland and South Africa.

The development of a Retail Display Cabinet version is well advanced and has attracted worldwide interest from cabinet manufacturers.  The project is  part funded by a DECC Energy Entrepreneurs Fund grant with support from a major European cabinet manufacturer.

A version for use in Air Source Heat Pumps is also being developed in partnership with Glen Dimplex which is also being part funded by DECC.

The company is well funded having raised £1.2m through a mixture of Cleantech loan funds grant finance and the issue of 20% shares in the company.
